Use the mm:ss format. For example, type 1:30 for one minute and thirty seconds, or 0:45 for forty-five seconds. For videos longer than an hour, use h:mm:ss.

No. By default the video is trimmed by copying the stream without re-encoding, so the original quality is fully preserved. If you enable a fade, the clip is re-encoded once at high quality to render the fade.
