Story Highlights are the unsung archive of Instagram. Brands pin their best testimonials, product walkthroughs and FAQ answers there permanently, often the most useful content on the entire profile. The problem? Highlights are 15-second video chunks stacked in a player with no transcript, no search, no export. This guide shows the cleanest way to turn an entire Highlight (sometimes 20 to 40 stories long) into one searchable text document.
Why Highlights Hold Hidden Value
Most brands treat Highlights like a Q&A archive. "Customer reviews," "How to use," "Behind the scenes," "FAQs," "Press." A new visitor lands on the profile and the Highlight bubbles become the navigation. The content inside is often hours of voiceover, founder pitches, customer testimonials, recorded answers to common questions, all the things a polished marketing page would normally cover.
But Instagram is an audio-visual format. You can't search a Highlight for "shipping policy" or "ingredients." If you want to extract the actual content for competitive research, a brand audit, or rebuilding a product FAQ page from scratch, you need text.
Real example: a fashion brand with 30 stories pinned under their "Reviews" Highlight contains 8 to 15 minutes of customer voiceover and on-camera testimonials. Transcribing the whole thing reveals which specific objections customers had, what words they used about the product, which phrases get repeated, gold for landing-page copy.
How to Transcribe a Highlight Step by Step
Open Instagram web and find the Highlight
Go to instagram.com/<username> in your browser. Click the Highlight bubble you want to capture. The Highlight opens in a player view with its own URL in the address bar (something like instagram.com/stories/highlights/<ID>).
Step through and copy each story URL
Click the right side of the player (or press the right arrow) to advance through the stories. Each story has its own URL pattern, typically instagram.com/stories/<handle>/<story_id>. Copy the URL of every story in the Highlight that has audio worth capturing.
Paste into Dokitscript bulk mode
Go to dokitscript.com, switch to the bulk URL tab (visible on Starter, Pro and Business plans), and paste all the story URLs you collected. Up to 25 at once.
Click Transcribe All
All the stories are transcribed in parallel. Each one appears as a separate entry on your History page, with its own URL, transcript and timestamps. Combine the transcripts in order to reconstruct the whole Highlight as a single text document.
Extract a brand's entire Highlight in 3 minutes
Bulk URL mode transcribes up to 25 stories at once. Starter from $4.99/mo.
See plans โUsing Bulk Mode for Long Highlights
The Starter plan ($4.99/month) is the cheapest tier with bulk mode and gives unlimited transcriptions (up to 300 cumulative minutes a month), which covers most Highlight extraction projects. Pro ($14.99) raises that pool to 1,300 minutes a month. Business ($79.99) adds speaker detection (useful if a Highlight contains multi-person interviews), 5-hour file support, and a 7,500-minute pool.
For Highlights longer than 25 stories, do it in two batches. The bulk job preserves the order you pasted, so plan your batches by story sequence (stories 1-25, then 26-50).
Combining Story Transcripts Into One Document
A clean Highlight document looks like:
Source: @brandname
Captured: May 26, 2026
Story 1, 14s
"I've been using this for 3 weeks and..."
Story 2, 12s
"What surprised me most was how..."
Story 3, 15s
"Honestly, the shipping was so fast..."
Once you have it in this form, Ctrl+F is your friend. Search for "shipping," "size," "price," "ingredient," any keyword you care about, and find every mention across the whole Highlight in one click.
Real Use Cases for Brands and Creators
Ecommerce brands. Audit competitor product Highlights to see how they handle returns, sizing, ingredient questions. Use the exact customer phrasing in your own landing pages.
Customer research teams. Pull testimonial Highlights and identify the top 5 phrases customers repeat about the brand. Better than surveys.
Agencies. Speed up brand audits by transcribing every Highlight on the client's profile, plus 2-3 competitor profiles, in under 30 minutes.
Content creators. Extract the script from your own Highlight to rewrite as an email newsletter section, blog post or YouTube video script.
Accessibility. Generate SRT subtitles from each story for re-uploading with captions baked in, useful for muted feed viewing.
Common Issues and Fixes
"Story not found"
Two possible causes. Either the story has been removed from the Highlight (the brand reorganized their pins), or you copied the URL while logged in with a session that has now expired. Refresh the Highlight, recopy the URL, retry. If the story really was removed, there's nothing to transcribe.
Empty transcript
The story probably has no spoken audio, common for visual-only stories with on-screen text or background music. The transcription engine focuses on speech. For text-overlay-only Highlights, you'd need an OCR tool, not a transcription tool.
Private profile
If the account is private, Highlight URLs won't return media through the transcription engine even if you can see them when logged in. The engine only works on public profiles. There's no fix for this beyond the account owner setting their profile to public.
